Wonder Woman to the rescue!

Hello you all! This week's dose of doozy will be about Superwoman. I realize that for 3 weeks in a row during the superhero themed month, we have yet to have a female figure. That may be because we associate superhero characters with the classics that we highlighted over the past weeks, but Wonder Woman is also a classic. Whether it's a subconscious bias to think like this or something else, a Dose of Doozy wants to represent the females in the crime fighting scene!

Amazing Amazon, Amazon Princess, Miss America, etc-you decide. Wonder Woman (her real name being Princess Diana but Diana for short) has many nick names to encapsulate all she is and does for the world, particularly for the female population out there. In a way, her existence in it of itself stands up for this initial minority in a very male dominated field. Now, I'm not saying this issue of gender equality is black and white in the comic book realm, as it is a very VERY complicated matter that has changed throughout the years-depending on where America as a country stood regarding statuses of men and women. Wonder Woman is actually the second heroine to have been created, dating back to 1941 (Sheena, Queen of the Jungle being the first in 1938). Even though she was second, I believe she is the most memorable for she has starred in today's superhero shows ranging from tv shows to mini movies (we're waiting for one in theatres now!).

She is also just worthy of being this week's dose of doozy because she hails from a secret jungle, has the Greek gods on her side, and becomes a kick butt heroine.
